Be ready to blast off to a world of adventure, excitement and enrichment through reading! It’s our Summer Reading Program at Grinnell, and we have a schedule full of fun, prizes and – shhh.. don’t tell your kids! – even new things to learn!

Family Events include:

Lego Bash’em Bots! (ages 5-12; registration required)
This family event will have children re-engineer LEGO vehicles into mechanized machines.

Afternoon Stargazing (ages 5 and up; registration required)
Join us in an inflatable planetarium – in our Children’s Room – and explore the universe.

Mad Science (for all ages; registration required)
Enjoy this family event as a broad introduction to the challenges of traveling in space.

Two by Two Zoo (for all ages; registration required)
This family event will have a fascinating presentation followed by an animal meet and greet.

The World of Butterflies (ages 5 and up; registration required)
This family event will talk about butterfly behaviors, habitats, and families.

Creating a Natural World of Wonder (ages 5 and up; registration required)
Enjoy this family event to create homes from nature’s treasures, known as elf or fairy homes.

Summer Reading Events:

Revised raffles for 2019 – Everyone can participate in our summer reading program by filling out a reading log – for children, that’s two hours of reading (or having someone read to you). For teens and adults, you only need to read one book.

Children’s Storytime – Registration required; join Miss Molly for stories and songs (for toddlers or Pre-K children).

Babies and Books – Registration required; join Miss Sally for infant storytime (up to 2 years old).

Pageturners Pre-K Book Club – Registration required for this special 5-week book club for 4- and 5-year olds.

Tail Waggin’ Tutors – By appointment only for ages 5 and up; calmly practice reading skills with a therapy dog.

Battle of the Books – Our annual book trivia competition with other libraries in the area; for middle and high school students.

Corpses, Coffee and Cannoli – Not for children! Our new true crime book club at Mamma Musetti’s Cafe.

Craft activities include:

Crafternoon – Ages 5 and up; a variety of activities to make (and take) your own space-themed crafts on Thursdays.

LEGO Summer Club – Just drop by and play with our collection on Friday afternoons!

Outdoor Events:

Blast O.F.F. (Outdoor Family Fun) – For ages 2 and up; join Miss Molly in our backyard for lawn games and other fun activities!
