Grinnell Public Library District is designated as a Passport Acceptance Facility by the U.S. Department of State to offer passport processing and photo services. Passports are not printed on-site. Visit the U.S. Department of State at https://travel.state.gov for complete information.
Appointments:
Passport Services are by appointment only during designated service hours (see below). Schedule your 30-minute appointment by calling Grinnell Public Library at 845-297-3428.
Each applicant must have a separate appointment. The applicant must be present, in person, at the Library to continue with the appointment. If the applicant is under 16, they will need both parents/guardians to be present or the appropriate forms completed.
The U.S. Department of State will NOT accept Starter Checks.
**If a patron is more than 15 minutes late and/or missing the necessary documents/items necessary to complete the application, the appointment will be canceled and/or rescheduled. Appointments will be canceled unless a patron has a check or money order with them. Appointments will also be canceled if a patron has the wrong amount of money on a check or money order.**

Middle Saturdays | 11am – 4pm
First & Last Sundays | 12:30pm – 3:30pm
Before Your Appointment:
- Go over our passport appointment Checklist to ensure that your appointment goes smoothly.
- Fill out all necessary forms ahead of time in black ink. Do not fill anything out in the spots designated for an authorized agent. Do not sign anything.
- Make sure you have all the necessary documents/items needed for your appointment.
- Look over the Passport Processing Times ahead of time to properly plan your trip.
New Passport Applications:
You will need to bring:
- Form DS-11 “Application for a U.S. Passport” completely filled out using black ink only. Do not sign it. The form should be single-sided only.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship (one of the following):
- Original Birth Certificate
- Previous U.S. Passport
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Certificate of Citizenship
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad
- Proof of Identity (one of the following):
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid Non-Driver’s ID
- Previous U.S. Passport
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Certificate of Citizenship
- Government Employee ID
- S. Military ID
- Valid Foreign Passport
- Matricula Consular
If your Proof of Identity was issued within the past year, please have a second Proof of Identity with you at the appointment.
- Check or Money Order made out to the U.S. Department of State. Look below for your appropriate fee.
- Check, Money Order, or Cash made out to the Grinnell Public Library. Look below for your appropriate fee.
- Passport Photo:
- Provide a photo that meets the Department of State requirements. To ensure your photo meets the standards, please read the information at http://travel.state.gov.
- Get your photo professionally taken at the Library for a fee of $15 per person. Grinnell Library only accepts cash, checks, or money orders.
Renewal Passport Applications:
You can Renew your Passport yourself by mail and carefully follow the instructions at https://travel.state.gov. We can look it over for you and professionally take your photo for $15 but you mail it out yourself.
Fees:
Passport Book Application Fee: $130 (adults) | $100 (minors under age 16)
Passport Card Application Fee: $30 (adults) | $15 (minors under age 16)
Execution Fee: $35 per application
Expedited Processing Fee (optional): $60
Overnight Delivery Fee (optional): $28.95 mail out | $22.05 return mail
Each application requires 2 payments:
- The Application Fee (plus any of the optional fees above) is paid by check (NO Starter Checks) or money order to ‘The Department of State.’ The government will NOT accept any other forms of payment.
- The Execution Fee is paid by cash, check, or money order to the ‘Grinnell Public Library.’
Processing Times:
Look over the processing times ahead of time to properly plan your trip. Processing times can change depending on the time of year.
Routine Applications: 4 – 6 Weeks
Expedite Applications: 2 – 3 Weeks
Please note that these times do not include mailing. Allow for an additional 1 – 2 weeks mailing to and from the facilities.
